about

Vítor Marsula is a producer and multi-instrumentalist based in São Paulo, Brazil. He is also part of the darkwave duo Two Internet Ghosts and a former member of the progressive rock band A 25a Experiência and the Brazilian psychedelia band Molodoys. In his third record as a solo artist, Anjos Fósseis (Fossile Angels), he consolidates and hones the techniques and themes present in his previous albuns, A Última Gota (The Last Drop) and Três Votos (Three Vows). Those used to Two Internet Ghosts will find a deep exploration of subjective and lexicon in very different visages, making use of genres and aesthetics such as ambient, drone and world music.

Anjos Fósseis explores sound vistas that take the listener to the unveiling of subconsciousness, evoking the descent of the ego to the internal underworld and its return to the external world. A psychedelia that skews the colourful explosions and euphoric ups and downs that is commonly associated with the term. In Anjos Fósseis, it is a fractal explosion in black and white, in which revelations arise through subtlety, the passage of sculpted time, revealing its forms layer by layer. It is a record which invites the listener to a trance, to self-reflection and to the pursuit of the understanding of one’s own personal mythology and eternal desire for Art.

The vistas come to the surface from a maximalist cauldron of electronic beds, acoustic instruments, loops and reprocessed sounds which are carefully chiselled and sometimes the result of happy accidents, from long drones, themes and folk instrumentation, peak experiences, spiritual noise e sound distortions. Through its nine tracks, the mystic experience is expressed in its multiple facets, sometimes mocking and nearly humorous and teasing, sometimes subtle and sublime. The peaks reveal themselves to those who take the steps up the trail step by step with Vítor, who delivers a record that is at the same time cohesive and diverse, in which synthetic low drones share space with semi-songs, suggested melodies and multifaceted moods. As the psychedelic exprience actually presents itself when free of the cliches imposed on it by those who have never truly experienced it. Be not afraid, take a breathe and take the plunge.

Anjos Fósseis will be available on on April 28 via Bandcamp, Spotify. Expect some surprises for the album’s physical format! The album is preceded by the single O Xerpa e o Vazio, which releases on March 24.
